Professional Standards & Safety Guidelines

mhca is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and comfortable environment where the health and well-being of attendees is prioritized. Our conferences bring together leaders and partners across behavioral health to share ideas, advance the field, show up authentically and support one another. To ensure a respectful, safe, and professional environment for all participants, we expect every attendee, speaker, sponsor, and staff member to adhere to the following guidelines.

  • Safe and respectful for all participants.
  • Free from harassment, intimidation, or discrimination.
  • Inclusive and welcoming for all regardless of identity or background.

Expected Behavior

  • Treat all attendees with respect, valuing a diversity of views and opinions.
  • Support a collegial atmosphere that fosters learning and collaboration.
  • Be mindful of personal boundaries in networking and social settings.
  • Comply with all conference and venue rules, as well as applicable laws.
  • If drinking alcohol, drink responsibly.
  • Stay alert to the welfare of those around you and seek help when needed.

Unacceptable Behavior

  • Intimidating, harassing or aggressive actions towards others.
  • Offensive or derogatory verbal comments.
  • Sexual harassment, including unwelcome advances, inappropriate physical contact, following, or sexually explicit comments.
  • Sustained disruption of sessions, meetings, or social events.

Reporting a Concern

If you experience or observe behavior that raises safety concerns or creates an unprofessional or unwelcoming environment, we encourage you to report it promptly. You may report in any of the following ways:

  • In person:  Speak with any mhca staff member.

All reports will be handled as quickly and confidentially as possible.

Implications of Nonadherence

Participants who are asked to stop inappropriate behavior are expected to comply immediately. mhca staff and board leadership may take any action necessary, including a verbal warning, removal from the event, exclusion from future conferences, or ineligibility for board positions.
