VideoSession green 150x150 How Success Leveraging Data is similar to a Good Exercise Routine

Presenter: Afia Managing Partner Chris Akerley

While many people believe that just having access to data will make them more data driven, this is frequently not a case of “if you build it, it will work”. Creating meaningful financial and clinical change through data takes the same type of planning, consistency, and resiliency that defines a successful exercise routine. In this session, we’ll discuss some of our suggestions for using data successfully and examine different case studies on how organizations have used data to drive real change.

VideoSession green 150x150 Metricovery™: An Award-Winning Innovation for CMHCs to Reduce Wait, Improve Outcomes, and Enhance Workforce Satisfaction

Presenters: Mind Springs Health Executive VP Michelle Hoy, and Director of Operations Kathy Capps

Mind Springs Health (MSH), the CMHC serving ten counties in Western Colorado, struggled to meet demand and treat clients in a timely and therapeutic manner. This became a significant challenge, leading to contracting with a Lean Six Sigma consultant and resulting in an innovation called “Metricovery™.” Their clinical outcomes exceeded all expectations. In fact, they received two prestigious national awards: the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Innovation at Work Award (2021) and The Sherman Award for Excellence in Patient Engagement by the Institute for Healthcare Innovation’s (IHI) (2020). This session describes the conceptualization, implementation, and evolution of this innovation.

VideoSession green 150x150How Organizations Can Thrive by Becoming Truly Data-Driven

Presenter: Streamline Healthcare Solutions Senior Product Manager Tim Pratt

Changing payer expectations and reimbursement requirements, evolving service delivery models, and increasing competitive pressures are among the issues facing behavioral health and human services providers. Simply having data is not enough to meet these challenges. Organizations need to be able to access, organize, and analyze their data in ways that enable them  to improve clinical outcomes, operational effectiveness, and financial performance. This session will address the key types of data mhca organizations need to access, how to develop and analyze important metrics based on the data, how to use data analysis to drive organizational improvements, and key considerations in becoming a truly data-driven organization.

VideoSession green 150x150Obtaining and Sharing Information

Presenter: Attorney at Law & MHRRG General Counsel Ronald Zimmet Sr.

The quality of risk assessment and treatment planning in behavioral healthcare depends critically on the quality of information used for the assessment and plan. This is especially so in evaluating and helping potentially suicidal and violent patients. Unfortunately, providers can have limited and/or unreliable information when performing assessments and planning. Sometimes critical, collateral source information from people who know the patient and other healthcare providers is not requested at all, and sometimes it is not obtained timely. This can happen because providers understandably have difficulty applying the complex HIPAA privacy rule and the substance abuse treatment confidentiality regulations, 42 CFR part 2.
This presentation includes discussion of the following:

  1. Why collateral source information is critical to assessment and planning and when it is needed.
  2. The categories of information needed for assessment and planning.
  3. Applying confidentiality regulations to real life situations when obtaining and sharing information.
  4. How not to miss critical information from collateral sources and in your own charts.
