Practical Implications of the New FLSA Overtime Regulations

The Department of Labor’s long-anticipated final overtime regulations will require otherwise exempt workers who earn less than $47,476 a year ($916/week) to be paid overtime, even if they are classified as a manager or professional.  This presentation will cover the key provisions of the final rules, the effect of nondiscretionary bonuses and incentive payments on the salary basis test, the non-enforcement policy for certain providers of Medicaid-funded services, and walk through scenarios and practical options for complying with the new salary threshold.

2 People Locked in Closets, Keeping Them Alive with the Right Questions, Risk Management & Potentially Violent Patients

Reducing the risk of litigation and providing the highest quality care for potentially violent patients involves specific steps which are often the subject of lawsuits. These include responding to danger signs, completing a scientifically-validated risk assessment, accessing sufficient, reasonably-available information and selecting the most appropriate intervention. Sometimes a misunderstanding of HIPAA regulations acts as a barrier to accessing adequate information. The speaker will discuss each of these areas as informed by the lessons learned in over 30 years of behavioral healthcare professional liability litigation.

Effective Treatments to Improve Patient Outcomes and Decrease ER Usage

Presenter: Lifeworks Director of Integrated Behavioral Health Lexy Vanorio Kilewer, LCSW and Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center CEO Gil Muñoz, MPA

Through a grant with Providence Health Systems, LifeWorks Northwest and Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center have created a collaborative and integrated team that identifies patients who frequent ERs and provides those patients with access to a healthcare team that can help address social challenges in addition to medical problems.  In the first years of the program, LifeWorks and Virginia Garcia have found success in reducing ER usage and inpatient hospital visits.
